Summer Lake Cottage, private beach, Berkshire Hills, small village

This is the lake cottage your grandmother visited during her childhood. Charming, original 1920 features. Big remodeled kitchen (new stove/oven) and big living room for family reunions and guests. Sleeps 9 in comfort; it has often slept 20. Porch overlooks Lake Wononscopomuc -- deepest lake in Connecticut. Close to train to New York and recreation facilities, in the heart of the New England independent school world and just right for the family's May and June, end of school and graduation weekends. Adjacent to Hotchkiss School and Interlaken Inn. Great fishing, hiking (including access to Appalachian Trail), antiques, golf, tennis, fall foliage, summer theater, dance and art. Superb porch sitting. Wood stove, fire-place, and electric heaters deal with extra-cool evenings or mornings. Outdoor gas grill supplements 2 indoor ovens and stove. WiFi, TV, phone.
Note that this is NOT a good place for wild or late night parties. It is located on a quiet lake not far from neighbors who appreciate the quiet beauty of the rural area. If you want to party loudly or despoil the lake, please go elsewhere.
Cultural Activities -- Near Lakeville, CT: Within a few miles of Lakeville, CT are features that include Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, Tri-Arts Sharon Playhouse, Music Mountain, Norfolk Festival, Railroad Days, excellent restaurants, and lovely NW CT countryside. We are five miles from the Appalachian Trail and many other hiking options. Lake Wononscopomuc is cool and clean all summer. It drops to 180 ft within 250 yards of our shore. Kayak, canoes and a sailboat supplied.
Sports: Sports include all low speed water sports -- no water skiing. Fishing is excellent for Lake trout, bass, pickerel, perch, and catfish. Many other lakes streams and ponds in the area. The Hotchkiss School Golf course is about 300 yards away and other nearby and publicly available courses are in Sharon, Amenia and North Canaan. Tennis is available at town courts a mile away. Horse-back riding is nearby. Lots of hiking opportunities.

This was a great property for our group of 11. The outdoor space was fantastic, especially the screened-in porch, and the common space in the house is great for a large group. Alden was very helpful and incredibly responsive. If I were to attend a wedding in the area in the future with a large group, I would definitely stay here.

Overall we were extremely pleased.

Nice and quiet location that made us feel as if we were very removed from our normal hustle and bustle of a life in the city. Exactly what everyone needed for a wedding weekend

Simple, clean, and great for bonding. We loved the fire pit, canoes, and proximity to Interlaken. Super communication and very user friendly owner.

This was a fantastic property for our large group. The partially shaded waterfront provided shade and privacy while still allowing pleasant views of the lake. The screened-in porch space was fantastic, and the common space in the house is great for a large group. The 5 bedrooms are roomy and separated from the common space. The large kitchen with 2 sinks and refrigerators made meal preparation easy for multiple cooks. The property was equipped with so many useful things. We especially enjoyed the inflatable floats and multiple boats for cruising the refreshing and quiet lake. The area has easy access to services and other activities for a wonderful vacation visit. Alden was very helpful and responsive.

Rustic but amazing!

Perfect relaxing location and lots of fun on the lake, can't wait to be back

The property was just as charming and rustic as advertised, and the setting was even nicer than we imagined. The kitchen with two fridges was spacious enough for meal prep, and the four bedrooms plus porches were ample space for our family of 12. Always great to have bedrooms on the first floor with a three generation family. When we weren't in the lake or around the firepit, we were on the porch which is a terrific vantage point. Alden was a terrific host, checking in with us as soon as we arrived and was flexible when we needed to change dates due to Covid. We're already planning a return visit. A lovely spot!

This cabin was rustic and cozy and perfect for our needs. The location being right on the lake was incredible and there were plenty of lake supplies to use to make the weekend one to remember. Thanks!

This house is located right on the lake, it was very serene. There are five bedrooms and three full bathrooms, I really enjoyed the pedestal tubs, but the water pressure in the shower upstairs and the window looking into the woods was the best. There were five of us so there were beds to spare. The kitchen is very spacious with two sinks, two fridges and freezers. There is a stop and shop to go food shopping maybe 10 minutes away, and a cute town with a great coffee and a few restaurants (highly recommend boathouse). Alden checked in several times before our stay to make sure we had the needed information about things to do in the area. There were instructions through the house on how to use the two wood burning stoves. Alden spoke with us upon check in to make sure we were settled and to see if we had any other questions once we were there. We were here on a chilly weekend so be aware there is no heat in the house just space heaters and the wood stoves so you’ll need to bring some layers and use the extra blankets provided. We enjoyed our stay and are already talking about coming back next summer.
