Welcome to Lonesome Valley, an unparalleled Cashiers retreat, nestled in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. Unwind and relax in this private cottage, available for rent on a limited basis, tucked away deep in the hardwoods of Lonesome Valley’s 800 pristine acres. There are only 35 cottages in this gated community which is surrounded by the largest Box Canyon in the eastern U.S.
The cottage sits on the banks of Lonesome Valley’s largest stream and trail, allowing you to start your daily hike just steps from your back door. Wake up to cool, breezy mornings and enjoy your first cup of coffee in front of a roaring fire on the spacious porch overlooking the crystal clear mountain stream.
Lonesome Valley is known for its amazing natural beauty and truly breath-taking views. In addition to 11 miles of on-property hiking trails, guests are welcome to enjoy the 6-hole disc golf course set up on the Lonesome Valley meadow. From late May through October dinner is served on site at Canyon Kitchen, providing one of Western North Carolina’s premiere dining experiences.
After an invigorating hike on Lonesome Valley’s 11 miles of private groomed trails, make your way into Cashiers (2 miles) for a day of shopping, dining, and/or waterfall viewing. Save a day for a visit to Lake Glenville (10 minutes from Lonesome Valley) for pontoon boating and tubing/skiing on Cashier’s best kept secret.
Fully furnished, the cottage comfortably sleeps six guests in 3 bedrooms / 3.5 baths. This Lonesome Valley jewel was custom designed by Mountainworks, designer of the 2010 Southern Living Cottage of the Year. The master suite is located on the first floor with two guest bedrooms upstairs. The open plan kitchen is fully equipped and beautifully appointed with wood cabinets and granite countertops.
Dine indoors on a large heart pine farm table or enjoy an outdoor meal on the covered porch. A cozy window seat in the library/study provides a great escape for afternoon naps and/or reading.
You can enjoy warm, relaxing fires in both the great room as well as on the large porch overlooking the stream. Perfect opportunities for enjoying your morning coffee and/or making those nightly Smores!
Lonesome Valley is situated 2.5 miles east of the quaint town of Cashiers and a short 15-minute drive to Highlands, NC. The Asheville, NC airport is exactly one hour from Lonesome Valley and Atlanta can be reached in three hours by car.
All linens are provided, as well as starter paper products. Every detail has been considered for your comfort. Our family spent a long weekend here and loved every minute. The house is beautifully and thoughtfully appointed so that you can enjoy it in rain or shine! We love to cook, and found the kitchen well stocked with everything we needed to prepare our meals. Chad, the property owner is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. This home is so beautiful. We especially loved being able to go on beautiful hiking trails that start right in the back yard. Well equip for cooking and all. Would love to return!
Foster Cottage was perfect in every way. The kitchen was well stocked and the living area was spacious and comfortable. The four of us spent a lot of time on the porch overlooking the woods where we enjoyed our meals. The hiking trails on the property and nearby were a lot of fun. Chad responded in a moments notice whenever we had a question. Lonesome Valley is a magical place with so many trails to explore on such beautiful property. Wish we could have stayed longer!
